On 29 July 2015, we visited Sre Ampil, an orphanage,
which is managed by Mr. SON Soubert since 1994 in Kandal province. Thanks
to the orphanage children can study and later find a job.
Mr. SON Soubert was born in 1942 and educated
in Paris at the Sorbonne. He studied art and architecture. He did extensive
research in the south of India, specializing in Southeast Asian history. He is
a Member of the Constitutional Council of Cambodia. He was to be a Member of
Parliament. He dedicated his life to children. First, he has found (in the
street after the genocide) children which parents had been massacred by the
Khmer Rouges, to feed them, give them a family and an education, then a job.
While we were travelling, it rained. We arrived at 6:30 pm. Then we enjoyed the great dinner all together and during dinner, Mr. SON Soubert presented us about Khmer culture and the styles of Khmer temples. There were many French scouts who participated with us. They were here to renovate rooms and build pigsties. After dinner time, we also enjoyed seeing the show the children prepared for us, Khmer traditional dancing and also songs (French, Khmer and Japanese). It was really surprising and amazing.
